FFAN members visited the site of Drumcarrow Broch and Hut Circles (Cameron Parish, Fife NGR: NO 45921 13194) in June. The broch itself is about 14m in diameter, with an entrance passageway and door lintel visible on the eastern side, and overlooks a scheduled prehistoric hut circle site about 500m away. This was an easily accessible site that rewarded investigation, including the discovery of an intriguing triangular shaped stone, and another interesting almost circular waterlogged feature by what may have been the entrance way - a cistern or water source for the broch?

There are at least 3 structures associated with the hut circle site. Some of the remains are clearly visible as courses of stone standing about half a metre high. Although there has been no firm dating evidence so far for the site, the westernmost house was excavated by staff and pupils of Madras college in 1962, with an excavation report published by Society for Antiquaries of Scotland [journals.socantscot.org/index.php/psas/article/download/8725/8693]
